Fumbly Review

Fumbly Friday Review-ColourPop’s Staycation Lippie Stix Collection

Holy smokes…we are officially in one of my most favorite months of the year.  November means even cooler temps, spending time with family on Thanksgiving, eventually Christmas decorating (don’t judge), and my birthday! In a few days I turn 36 years young and I can’t wait to celebrate another wonderful year of life. I certainly don’t feel like I’m 36, especially after trying on all these snazzy new lippie stix colors from ColourPop.

A few weeks ago I sent out a group text to my family telling them that I would love the new Staycation Lippie Stix Collection by ColourPop.  I think they were offering free shipping at the time, so my brother was sweet enough to purchase it for me as an early birthday gift!  He went ahead and gave it to me so I could start testing out my new lippies as soon as possible.  Thanks, Corey!

First of all, I love the packaging that the collection came in…it’s so cute!  The outside has a geometric design with some gold foiling and there is a magnetic closure that keeps the top down.  When you open the packaging up the lippie stix are displayed neatly centered in the carrier.  There is a large mirror on the underside of the lid of the box which is nice, but I doubt I will use it. The bottom of the box lists the collection name along with the name of each color that is included.

I am a huge fan of ColourPop’s lippie stix.  I like them better than their liquid matte and satin lip products.  They are just so comfortable to wear and the pigmentation is always on point (IMO).  FYI–the Staycation Lippie Stix are all matte formulas.  The Staycation Collection is $25 and you get a total of six lippie stix.  That’s a good deal because lippie stix are normally $5 each, so you are getting one for free when you buy this set.

So let’s get started with some swatches.  First up we have CookieColourPop describes this color as a true nude beige.  I was a little worried this color might be too light for me, but I actually really liked it when I put it on.  Application wasn’t streaky and it glided on my lips nicely.  NOTE:  I like to put coconut oil on my lips for a bit and then wipe it off before applying any type of matte lipstick.  I prefer not to use any lip moistureizers with waxes because I feel like they leave residue behind that causes the lip products to slide off my lips.

The next shade is Brink and is described as a warm, dusty taupe.  This color is right up my alley for everyday wear (really anytime!).  It’s not much different from Cookie.  Just a little darker with mauve undertones. Again, application was smooth and pigmented.

I ❤ This is up next and is described as a red based fuchsia.  These types of colors are not my favorite.  My skin has a lot of pink undertones and sometimes bright fuchsias just pull those undertones out even more when I wear them.  However, I quite liked this color…like, a lot.  I had some trouble with the application, but it wasn’t the lippie stix fault.  Fact-o-the-Day about Krista:  My bottom lip, on the right side, is completely numb.  I can’t feel a thing except when the nerves get cranky and tingle sometimes.  This makes lipstick application interesting so please excuse any crooked application you may see!

We are halfway there!  Bossy is described as a classic blue red and boy it is!  I love a good blue red lipstick and this one delivers.  It’s vibrant and applies like a dream!  I will definitely get a lot of wear out of this shade.

LBB is the shade that I was looking  forward to swatching the most.  It’s described as a rich plum wine which is again, right up my alley.  I love these kind of colors for fall and think they look lovely against my pale skin.  I have to say I was a little disappointed.  It applied a little patchy…nothing horrible, but it took a couple extra swipes to even it out on my lips.  I also wasn’t in love with the color.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty.  I just wasn’t as excited about it as I thought I would be.

Lastly, we have Grunge.  This type of color is totally on trend right now.  It’s described as a cool-toned plum brown.  It’s a color that is straight out of the 90s and it gave me flashbacks to My So-Called Life and listening to Nirvana all day!  Application was great.  Grunge wasn’t streaky at all and glided on the smoothest out of all the colors.  I’ve been trying to find the perfect brown for me and I’ve had some hits and misses.  Grunge was one of those colors that I honestly couldn’t tell if it worked for me or not.  I liked it though and think that with the right eye look it could look pretty cool.  Maybe I will be adventurous on my birthday and try to wear it out!  You only turn 36 once, right?!?

Overall, I am super happy with the Staycation Lippie Stix Collection.  The range of colors work for paler and deeper and everything in between skin tones, so that’s a plus.  I like that I have everyday colors and some adventurous colors to chose from.  It’s a nice little collection and I would definitely recommend it.

I think I may have ColourPopped you guys out so my next few reviews will be on some other products (one of them is not even make-up if you can believe it!).  If there are any products you would like me to review, let me know.  I could even do a “my favorites” type blog post on make-up if requested.  Just write a YAY  in the comments box below if that is something you would be interested in reading!

xoxo,  Krista
